BIJEAN GAYLE

Bijean Gayle is a young man with a gift for songwriting.

His songwriting and singing began at St. Georges College where he sang in the Choir under the guidance of Hugh Douse. He then joined the singing group Nexus which led to the formation of the four man vocal group H.U.S.H.

The years performing with H.U.S.H. and Nexus led to travels to Africa and many performances locally which brought him to the attention to producers Dean Fraser, Mikey Bennett and Clive Hunt.

Clive Hunt signed him to a record deal with EMP records in Florida and work on his album began and the single "Spiritual Poverty" was released.

He then came under the mangement of Seretse Small of Griot Music who sought to develop his performing skills by booking him in the Live Music Nation series at Christopher's Jazz Cafe and Grosvenor Galleries. During this time he also appeared at the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Seh Supm Poetry series and Jamaica Vibez at Weekenz.

In this period Bijean began to develop as a rising acoustic artist, deftly using sparse arrangmentes with acoustic guitars and percussion as a platform for his powerful lyrics. This approach got him rave reviews at Weekenz which led to him recording an acoustic version of his song "86 Mark Lane" which created quite a buzz on FAME FM and NATIONWIDE AM.

Bijean now teaches at Innswood High School in St. Catherine and is focused on developing his songwriting voice and guitar skills. He lives in Old Harbour with his Mother and enjoys the company of his dogs and coming up with new song ideas.

He can be seen at live music performances at Jo Jo's Jerk Pit and Susie's Bakery
